As for copying the wow folder, it can sometimes cause problems, specially if you forget to delete Cache folders that are set to computer you installed it in.

I do have all the DVDs but installing 6 DVDs is even more of a pain. I have never had an issue with copying the WoW folder directly from one PC to the next and I have never had to delete the cache folder either. FYI, you can copy the WoW folder from one PC to another, no need to do fresh installs with every computer you get. World of Warcraft can successfully be run from a flash or portable hard drive and does not need to actually be installed to work properly. You need only copy your 'World of Warcraft' folder to wherever you want to run it from. The exception to this is if you intend to move from Windows to OSX, or vice versa. Actually only the client programs are OS specific. The data files that form the bulk of the install are cross platform.
So once you have the new install installed you can copy the Data folder from a Windows install to an OS X install just fine. You'll need to restart before doing so to make sure neither the Launcher, BDA or Agent are writing to those files before you do so of course.
