This is the best subreddit I could find for help on the subject. I have a claw machine I am having some problems fixing, specifically this one.

My problem thus far is I want to replace the coin mechanism that it currently uses, with a limit switch triggered by the coin eject switch being pushed in. Problem being, I can't short the 2 wires originally connected to the N.O. Limit switch, which I think has to do with the capacitor labelled 104M that bridged the 2 wires broke when I tried to take them off of the coin mechanism. I can't find a replacement for this capacitor, as I don't know the working voltage (it might be 5v or 12v).

Also, the one time it did work (capacitor wasn't broken, broke a minute later), pushing in the drop arm button caused the timer to stop, and prevented the joystick from moving. Still haven't figured that one out. It might be a dead motor, but when it happened, there was no noise. The crane only ran once after fidgeting with the 2 wires connecting the limit switch. Shorting them worked once, it was my father who tried that when it happened.

It is definitely working, I checked for continuity of the wires after the crane was power cycled. There is definitely current flowing through it. I'm thinking of hooking a button up to it to test if that is the problem. Also, you are probably right. After looking at a switch debouncer circuit, it does look remarkably similar. I worked for an amusement operator for about 2 years and I would say before you waste the time replacing the motor check the wires running to the gantry.

I've even seen wires break inside the insulation even while the insulation is still intact. Also any time I would have to make a crane 'free play' I would either set it in the DIP switch settings or have to replace the coin mech with a credit button so It's still playable. Putting a credit button is by far the easiest way especially if you don't know the settings.
